Come Follow Me Lesson Helps: Ye Shall Be Witnesses Unto Me
I'm a day late getting the lesson helps for the "Ye Shall Be Witnesses Unto Me" lesson posted, so I apologize. We had a pretty eventful couple of days at my house as we lost our pet, so I hope you'll forgive me. I'm actually going to write a scrapbook post about scrapbooking pets later today! It will be part of my emotional therapy, I think.
TEACHERS AND LEARNERS
As I've been studying the New Testament up to this point, I have been using a really great book called Learning at the Feet of the Savior by David Ridges and I have talked about it before. While the book deals with the Savior's mortal life and ministry, and we've now moved into Acts, I still think it's worth reading. There is a lot of information for teachers and learners, and that has been super helpful for me.
There are more quotes than I could possibly share with you in a million blog posts that I love, but there is one that stuck out to be recently.
"Learners should be careful to not become too dependent upon a teacher. Sure, an engaging, passionate teacher can make learning feel like a walk in the park. Who among us wouldn't rather have the truth fed directly to us by a highly competent and capable teacher? Fallen nature would rather take the easy road. And if we don't watch ourselves, we may become very comfortable with learning from the best teachers only to discover that when they are gone, we have not developed the skills, attributes, knowledge, behaviors, and attitudes that will sustain us as independent self-directed learners."
THIS IS WHAT THE COME FOLLOW ME PROGRAM IS ALL ABOUT!
I love that quote because I feel like it reinforces how I have felt so far with the Come Follow Me program. I have gotten so much more out of it since I started really studying on my own!
If you'd like to learn some great study tips that have worked for me, you can check out my blog post 12 Tips for Better Scripture Study, and if this is your first time visiting, you can get some of the free scripture study aids from past lessons that I send out in the weekly emails in my Free Stuff--they're free to download!
OTHER RESOURCES TO GO WITH YE SHALL BE WITNESSES UNTO ME
I love the podcast on Meridian Magazine, so if you like podcasts, I suggest you check it out! I also enjoy The Scripture Study Project. I know there are a ton of podcasts out, there, but these are the two I have listened to and would recommend. If you have one that you love, please drop a note in comments and let me know! I'm always looking for things to listen to in the car.
Happy Studying!
