The idea that my own "veil of unbelief" is holding me back from the Lord's blessings has been on my mind a lot this week. In fact, the whole story of the brother of Jared has held some important messages for me this week as I've been contemplating how it might be possible that I could rend that veil of unbelief, because I definitely have one.

I imagine it was difficult for Mormon as he watched the destruction of his people and wished that he could persuade all to repent. Yet also being so close to the Lord and a prophet, he ultimately knew where things were leading, and it had to be heartbreaking for him.

Wouldn't it be amazing if, somewhere down the road...say, 100 years or so...people could look back on us at this time and say "There could not be a happier people than those people that were living in 2020."? A huge portion of this lesson is Christ's prophecies about the last days. It's amazing to look back over the course of the last 200 years and see how the Lord has been preparing the world for the Savior's return, starting with the coming forth of the Book of Mormon.

I love that this week's lesson is titled Glad Tidings of Great Joy! Even though the message of Samuel the Lamanite starts with a great call to repentance for the Nephites, his message ends on the happy news of Christ's coming.

The story of Nephi praying on the garden tower, and his plea to those around him to remember the Lord is a story that I tend to forget about. But is there any message in the scriptures more important than to remember the Lord? It's so easy to forget Him, especially when we are distracted by so many things around us.
